ISO 27001 is becoming ever more important as more businesses use computers and online storage for their business. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) states that organisations must adopt appropriate policies, procedures and processes to protect the personal data they hold. ISO 27001, the international standard for information security, provides an excellent starting point for achieving the technical and operational requirements necessary to reduce the risk of a breach.
There are now thousands of businesses using emails, online shops, digital banking and storing customer details online. ISO 17001 is a certification designed to ensure the safety of information both digitally and within business paperwork. With so many businesses sharing information through the internet it has become a target for hackers and thieves to try and steal this vital information through deceptive measures.
This could be customers personal information, such as bank details, addresses or personal information that these thieves could use to access people bank accounts or information regarding your business that they could use to deceive people or get money from your business.
ISO 27001 will help put your customers at ease and ensure you are following the right legal steps to ensure the safety of both your business and your customers.

FSC & PEFC Chain-of-Custody Certification
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
The FSC is an internationally recognised certification that ensures businesses using wooden products are sourcing their materials from sustainable and reliable sources. FSC helps take care of forests and the people and wildlife who call them home.
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)
PEFC is an independent, non- profit, non-governmental organisation that promotes sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification. Within its membership there are 32 independent forest certification schemes of which 22 have completed the rigorous assessment process. These 22 schemes account for over 187 million hectares of certified forest producing millions of tonnes of certified timber.
Chain of Custody
The FSC/PEFC chain-of-custody is recognised globally and has over 4,000 certified organisations that implement the FSC certification within their organisation. The certification is supported by WWF and recognised by them as the “hallmark of responsible forest management”. Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and the woodland trust also recognise the FSC certification. This is because businesses who implement this strategy within their business are aiming to become more environmentally friendly.
Chain-of Custody is the unbroken path which products take from the forest to the customer, including all stages of manufacturing, transformation and distribution.
Chain-of Custody certification provides evidence that the certified product originates from certified well-managed forests, and verifies that these products are not mixed with products from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain except under strict controls when percentage labelling is being used.
Chain-of-Custody certification is required whenever a company carries out any physical alteration to the timber/product, they take physical or legal ownership of the timber/product and whenever a company wishes to make independent use of the FSC or PEFC trademark.
What happens next?
Putting ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems into place and becoming certified in this area assures all the constituents of a company including customers, shareholders, suppliers, regulators and general public that this company is actively managing its environmental systems. By having an EMS in place that continues to function with changes in the market environment, it also helps minimize the costs and downstream risks with environmental management.
Many businesses who use the FSC also have ISO 14001 implemented within their business as it provides additional environmental benefits.

There are various ways in which you can make your business more effective, measuring and monitoring key attributes such as production, customer analysis and financial monitoring can provide us with information on how your business can develop and grow.

When working with IBCN we will ensure we give you all of the tools you need to successfully implement an ISO strategy and grow your business long-term.
We will work with you to identify business measures and targets and provide you with appropriate actions and help you achieve the desired results.
Integrated Management Systems
Many organisations are now opting to introduce an integrated management system that meets the requirements of several different ISO standards. A quality management system is a set of policies, processes and procedures required for planning and execution (production, development, service) in the core business area of an organization i.e. areas that can impact the organisation’s ability to meet customer requirements. An integrated management system incorporates ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management.
The main advantage of an IMS (Integrated Management System) is that you can run this using one management system, use one set of documentation and run one third party audit. This results in more control of your business, less effort and intern reduced costs.
We are currently working with several forward-thinking businesses who opted to implement an integrated management system instead of traditional single standards.
